Conversations around deductions (writing things off) can be fairly interesting when preparing taxes. A good thing to remember is whether that expense generated income, was it so unusual as not to be required/worn in your everyday life and was it at the convenience of your employer or client. For example:

• Generating income – advertising, business cards, website • Clothing – are they so unusual you cannot wear them in your everyday life • Mileage – between two work locations or to a temporary job assignment
